To help celebrate British Science Week, our Year 12 science students and students from Northgate High School recently had the opportunity to hear from John Gordon-Reid, Co-Director of What on Earth! Publishers. John ran a very interactive session which included the chance for everyone to test their science knowledge! Nathaniel from year 12 explains more:
“The quiz involved multiple choice questions based on key dates that STEM events happened throughout history. For example, my tie-break question was ‘When was the Issigonis Mini introduced – 1949 or 1959?’. Fortunately I am interested in cars, so I knew it was 1959. As a prize I won a Factopia book which gives more dates – ‘Did you know: the first ever photographic selfie was taken on an early camera in 1839?’ or ‘Did you know: Edinburgh Castle was built on top of an extinct volcano?’ There were a number of quizzes and lots of information was given in a fun way.”
John’s presentation featured several STEM discoveries which they rated as either good, with a mini Oscar (as seen here held by Nathaniel) or not as good, with a wooden spoon!
