A LEVEL FINE ART
Fine Art isn’t about detailed drawing and painting – it’s about creating work that moves people, starts conversations and challenges the world around you. This course is your playground to explore who you are as an artist, giving you freedom to experiment in and develop traditional and new processes, materials, techniques and skills.
Course Overview
Whether you want to master classic techniques or break the rules with new media, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to turn your biggest ideas into powerful visual statements.
The curriculum centres on personal inquiry and aesthetic exploration across a wide specturm if disciplines, inlcuding painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, land art, installation, printmaking, photography and digital media. Throughout the two-year course, practial studio work is closely integrated with contextual research, encouraging you to draw creative inspiration from art history and contemporary visual culture while mastering visual elements like line, tone, colour and composition.
Course Content
Year 1
Component One: workshop activities followed by a themed project based mainly on taught elements and developing ideas.
Year 2
Component One (continued): personal investigation. A practical unit of work with a written investigation between 1,000 and 3,000 words.
Component Two: controlled assessment – preparation and final piece. A 15-hour supervised period in which you are expected to fully realise your ideas.
Assessment
Both components are centre assessed and moderated by Eduqas. You will be expected to demonstrate a response to all of the assessment objectives.

THE FINE ART & HERITAGE ROUTE – focuses on personal vision, concept & material mastery
Painter / Visual Artist: create original artwork for private clients, public galleries and commercial commissions using diverse 2D media.
Art Conservator / Restorer: preserve, restore and analyse historical paintings and fine art artifacts for museum collections and private archives.
Gallery Curator: direct exhibitions and manage artistic collections.
THE DIGITAL & VISUAL MEDIA ROUTE – focuses on spatial, digital & applied visual skillsets
Illustrator & Concept Artist: develop original visual styles, characters, and environments for publishing, entertainment, and digital media.
Printmaker & Surface Pattern Designer: create intricate repeating designs and bespoke print techniques for textiles, fashion, and interior products.
Set & Production Designer: design and construct physical and spatial environments for theatre, film, television, and commercial sets.
THE COMMUNITY & CREATIVE THERAPY ROUTE – applies artistic process to education, health & social impact
Art Therapist: utilise creative art-making processes within clinical settings to support mental health, wellbeing, and healing.
Community Arts Coordinator: develop and run inclusive creative programs, workshops, and public art initiatives for local communities.
Art Educator & Lecturer: teach, inspire, and train the next generation of creative practitioners in schools, colleges, or universities.
Entry Requirements
Minimum 44444 including 4 in GCSE Art and/or Design & Technology. You should also have a genuine interest in art, craft and design and an enthusiasm for being creative, designing and making quality outcomes.
