Emma and Liliana Dance at Sadler’s Wells

Two of our students, Emma and Liliana, recently had an amazing opportunity to dance on the famous Sadler’s Wells stage in London. Emma explains more:

Emma and Liliana

“We took part in a competition run by Sadler’s Wells called Making Moves. Our dance team, Obsidian, applied to complete – and we were one of the 48 teams selected to take part in the competition. Each team was assigned 1 of 4 choreographers: Alesandra Seutin, Danielle Rhimes, Oona Doherty and Jordan Douglas. We worked with Jordan Douglas’ “toolkit” – a set of songs and moves in his primary dance style, ‘krump’. We fused his dance style with our groups’ usual style of contemporary to create our piece entitled Disconnect, stemming from our given theme of social media. We worked on this from October to February before performing in Ipswich at our regional platform. Each choreographer chose their 2 favourite dances to have the opportunity to perform in one final show at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London … and we were chosen! We had such an incredible time performing on one of the most recognisable dance stages in the UK: performing our piece and taking a workshop from Jordan Douglas himself.

It was a mind-blowing experience, stepping onto the stage and looking out to the 3 tiers of seating in front of us. It was absolutely insane – and is something we will never take for granted, or forget.”
