DSFC Students Win Logo Competition for Orchard Surgery

Dereham Sixth Form College and Northgate High School were recently invited by Orchard Surgery in Dereham to design a new logo for the practice. Students from both the school and college took part, submitting a wide range of creative and high-quality designs:

The surgery Partners and Practice Managers carefully reviewed all the entries, and we are delighted to announce that three DSFC students were selected as winners:

1st place: Naglis Petrauskas
2nd place: Shannon Barnett
3rd place: Evie Shakesby

The surgery team were impressed by the overall standard of submissions, but felt that Naglis’s design best met the brief and will serve as an excellent representation of the practice.

Read what our winners have to say about their experience:

Naglis

“I decided to participate in the competition for the Orchard Surgery logo because, as a graphic design student, I am always looking for ways to utilize my skills in a real-world context. Not only did participating in this competition challenge me as an artist, but it also helped to improve my portfolio and aid in my progress as a student. When designing the logo for Orchard Surgery, I decided to research other organizations within the healthcare industry to see what common elements are represented visually and what makes a logo both professional and inviting. I knew I had to make sure that the final product represented elements such as trust, care, and community, as these are all very important aspects of a surgery. I am feeling extremely proud and thankful to see that my design was chosen as a winner. It is always a great feeling to know that my work will be implemented in a real-world scenario, particularly within an organisation that plays such a vital role in society. This experience has given me a great deal of confidence and motivation to continue improving my skills as a designer.”

Evie

“I chose the design as an apple to depict the ‘orchard’ name, in a simple heart of symbolise the care of the surgery. The cross is a nod to the traditional doctors cross, a universally recognised symbol. Moreover, the colours come from the official NHS colour palette to fit the brief, and synergy of the surgery and NHS. I am happy to have come 3rd place!”

The winning students were invited to the surgery to meet the competition organisers and surgery Partners, where they each presented with an Amazon gift card in recognition of their work.
