The A Level Physical Education course develops your interest in sport from primarily a theoretical viewpoint. The content of the course addresses current topics in sport, as well as having a practical element. We follow the AQA specification.

Year 1
The theory element of the course consists of the following topic areas:
- Applied anatomy and physiology
- Exercise physiology
- Sport psychology
- Sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport
For the practical element of the course you should be competent in two sports and be regularly playing in at least one of these outside of an academic environment.
Year 2
The theory element of the course consists of the following topic areas:
- Skill acquisition
- Sport and society
- Biomechanical movement
- Sport psychology
- Sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport
Assessment
There are two exam papers of 2 hours each.
Paper 1 assesses applied anatomy and physiology, skill acquisition and sport and society. It contains a combination of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions. It makes up 35% of the A Level.
Paper 2 assesses exercise physiology and biomechanics, sport psychology and sport and society and technology in sport. It contains a combination of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions. It makes up 35% of the A Level.
In the non-exam assessment, you will be assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity. You will also give a written/verbal anaylsis of the performance. This is assessed internally with external moderation and makes up 30% of the A Level.
Entry Requirements
Minimum 65544 including a minimum 6 in GCSE PE (6 must be achieved in Theory part of paper).
Regular participation and club representation in at least one sporting activity.
