Miss Harris
Head of Dance

Dance is a dynamic qualification which encourages you to develop your creative and intellectual capacity, alongside transferable skills such as team working, communication and problem solving. All of these are sought after skills by higher education and employers and will help you stand out in the workplace, whatever your choice of career.

i

Year 1

In the first year you will study some key areas of dance to give you a firm grounding for further study. These include:

  • The work Rooster by Christopher Bruce
  • The work of Rambert Dance Company
  • A performance in a quartet
i

Year 2

In the second year you will examine a few chosen areas of dance in greater depth:

  • A variety of work from the independent contemporary dance scene in Britain 2000-current
  • Focussed study of Sutra by Sidi Larbi
  • Group choreography from a stimulus set by the exam board
  • Solo performance in the style of a dance practitioner/choreographer

Assessment

Performance and choreography are assessed within a practical exam. You will deliver a solo performance linked to a specified practitioner within an area of study, performance in a quartet and group choreography.

Critical engagement is assessed with a written exam lasting 2 hours 30 minutes. The first section contains short answer questions and one essay question on the compulsory set work/area of study. The second section contains two essay questions on the second set work/area of study.
