Biology Fieldtrip – Letheringsett, Holme-next-the-Sea & Titchwell Marsh

26 June 2017

Last week our Year 12 Biologists went on two fieldtrips in preparation for the second year of their course. On Wednesday students sampled a river in order to complete a freshwater study in Letheringsett. Their sampling revealed frogs, a stickleback, numerous bull head fish and caddis fly larva, plus one student spotted a native white-clawed crayfish.

On Thursday, they studied sand dunes at Holme-next-the-Sea and undertook a sand dune transact to investigate succession, plant diversity and infiltration. On the same day the students also travelled to Titchwell Marsh and received a talk at the RSPB centre on the management of freshwater and saltwater marshes. There they spotted three Marsh Harriers and avocets, as well as frogs, ducks and lots of wildfowl.
