Best of British Day – DSFC Social Committee
17 May 2017
For the final event of the Social Committee’s calendar this year, the students organised a ‘Best of British Day’ on Friday 12th May. The aim of the day was to celebrate everything that is good about Great Britain and events were organised to help raise money for this year’s Year 13 Leaver’s Ball and for next year’s College Senate.
At first break students gathered on the field for the quintessentially British competition of tug-of-war. Two teams of eight students entered the College competition and, after a short but intense battle, one team was announced victorious and were awarded their medals by Ben Greentree, Chair of the College Senate.

To celebrate, everyone decamped back to the Conservatory which had been decked out in British flags to enjoy a cake sale and music by iconic British artists.
Later the in the morning the College welcomed Major General Sir William Cubitt and Lady Cubitt who had spent the earlier part of the day at Northgate High School as part of their celebrations for their affiliation with the Royal British Legion. Major General Sir William Cubitt, Lady Cubitt and representations from the Royal British Legion were welcomed to the College by members of the College Senate and enjoyed a tour of the site.
